Hey Readers! You hear me on the daily… I absolutely LOVE being the mom of 5 boys between the ages of 2 and 11. I talk all things fun, and adventure, and love and learning… and did I mention chaos?!
Just a few weeks ago, I wrote to you all about how this chaos-loving mama was able to sneak away for a guilt free vacation. Now, some of you might be raising an eyebrow. Vacations without kids? What did you even do all day?! Well, let me tell you, it was pure magic. Here’s how we created our own slice of paradise in St. Thomas, perfect for adventure-loving couples like us:
Our Active Oasis: Wyndham Elysian Resort
We started by booking our stay at the Wyndham Elysian Resort. This beautiful resort offered everything we craved: stunning ocean views, a sparkling pool for lazy afternoons, and easy access to various activities.
Day 1: Island Hopping and Hiking Delights
Our first day was all about exploring neighboring St. John. We hopped aboard a ferry to Cruz Bay, the island’s main town, buzzing with brightly colored shops and a vibrant atmosphere. After a quick coffee, we set off on the Lind Point Trail, leading to the breathtaking Honeymoon Beach. The hike wasn’t strenuous but offered incredible views of the turquoise waters and lush greenery. Relaxing on the pristine white sand, listening to the waves crashing, felt like a scene straight out of a postcard.
After a refreshing swim, we opted for another short hike to Caneel Hill. The panoramic views of the entire island were breathtaking, and the feeling of accomplishment after conquering (well, casually strolling up) a slight incline was undeniable.
Day 2: Unveiling the Charm of Charlotte Amalie
Day two was dedicated to exploring St. Thomas’ capital, Charlotte Amalie. We rented a car and drove into the bustling heart of the city. Walking along the narrow streets lined with colorful Danish colonial buildings was like stepping back in time. We stopped at Fort Christian, a historic landmark offering stunning harbor views, and then meandered through the open-air market, picking up local handicrafts and souvenirs. No trip to the Caribbean is complete without indulging in some retail therapy, right?
Our quest for adventure extended to our taste buds. We indulged in fresh seafood at a waterfront restaurant, savoring the local catch with a delicious mango salsa. In the evening, we treated ourselves to a romantic dinner at a charming French bistro where the atmosphere was as delightful as the food. Sipping on a glass of local wine under the starry sky – sheer bliss!
Day 3: Unveiling the Island’s Gems
Day three was all about exploring the island by car. We started at Drake’s Seat, a lookout point offering a panoramic view of the east and north coasts. The legend of Sir Francis Drake sailing the Caribbean seas added a touch of intrigue to the stunning scenery.
Next stop: Magen’s Bay, a crescent-shaped beach often considered one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean.
A quick drive later and we reached Paradise Point, another scenic spot known for its zipline adventure. We opted for a leisurely stroll through the tropical gardens instead, relishing the vibrant flora and fauna. Frenchman’s Cove, a secluded beach known for its calm waters and snorkeling opportunities, was our final stop of the day. While we skipped the snorkeling this time (maybe next trip!), the peacefulness of the cove was a perfect way to wind down before dinner.
Day 4: Soaking Up the Last Rays of Paradise
Our final day was all about relaxation. We spent the morning indulging in kid-free swim in the pool then we headed back to Magen’s beach. We spent the afternoon swimming in the crystal-clear water, sunbathing on the soft sand, and walking up and down the beach having uninterrupted conversations as a couple.
The afternoon was dedicated to lounging by the pool, reading books, and simply enjoying each other’s company. We capped off our trip with an amazing evening kayaking trip, where LED lights were attached to the bottom of our clear bottom boats, giving us a private night time viewing of all of the amazing sea creatures we didn’t even know were right there the whole time!
Lessons Learned from Paradise
Our St. Thomas adventure was more than just a vacation; it was a reminder of the importance of prioritizing our relationship. Here are a few things we learned:
- Disconnect to Reconnect: Unplugging from our daily routines and immersing ourselves in the beauty of St. Thomas allowed us to truly connect and appreciate each other.
- Embrace Adventure: Exploring new places and trying new activities keeps the spark alive and creates lasting memories.
- Indulge Responsibly: While it’s important to treat yourself, finding a balance between indulgence and moderation is key.
- Savor the Moments: Slow down, appreciate the little things, and cherish every moment together.
By following these tips, you can create your own unforgettable couples’ getaway. Remember, the most important ingredient is each other’s company. So, go ahead, book that trip, and let the adventure begin!
